Kelvin Hopkins, co-Convenor of the UNISON group of MPs sums up Gordon Brown’s Conference speech very well in today’s Grauniad;
"It was a speech that will just mean continuing the same New Labour policies. There was nothing on the fourth option for council housing [allowing councils to build more council houses]; nothing on changing the policy on Trident or stopping moves to privatise the NHS."
This is the serious problem with what Brown had to say – and is a much more interesting comment than that made – or not made - by Cherie (although I suppose she ought to be able to spot a lie better than most…)
Gordon Brown has made clear that he is not going to deliver for the unions – what are we going to do about it?

I would suggest supporting a leader that would deliver for the Unions (www.john4leader.org.uk)
John said re Browns speech
"Carefully planned to herald in his transition to leadership of the Labour Party it was widely judged that he needed to give the speech of his lifetime.
The formula was fairly obvious. Pay respects to Tony Blair, show Gordon the person, set out a record of achievement, do the vision thing, hint at a few big ideas and finally round on the Tories.
The problem was that it sounded like a speech too long in preparation and so nervously drafted that it avoided any controversy. As a result key issues facing not just the Labour Party conference but more importantly the real world outside were just finessed over."
