I favoured rejection as did a number of other stewards but on a quorate vote, we lost. Democracy not dictatorship.

Supposedly (allegedly) my branch was the best supported across the Northern Region on strike day, because we worked hard with the members by showing leadership, however leadership is not just about getting your own way, the devil is always in the detail, and criticism by implication is still criticism.

The truth might not suit your position, but it remains the truth and you do my members a disservice by assuming they aren't capable of making their minds up without a recommendation from me.

As a branch we're being decimated by cuts, and as a region unemployment is going up. These are the issues that affected how my members voted, the vast majority already losing a day's pay didn't want to lose another.

I've been open and explicit in my anger at how our pay campaign has been handled, but I listen (as well as lead), my branch members.

Paul Newcastle City Branch SecretaryPaul Gilroynoreply@blogger.com
