Men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of their defeat, and when it comes turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name. (William Morris - A Dream of John Ball)

Parliament to debate Iraq - how will they vote?

I was sorry to be late for the Labour Left Briefing AGM on Saturday, therefore missing Tony Benn and John McDonnell. (Tony is – of course – brilliant, but when it comes to supporting his son for Deputy Leader I think Labour blogger Harry Perkins has already summed it up.)

I was pleased to hear Jeremy Corbyn speak on international issues – and announce that an all party motion calling for a Parliamentary inquiry into the legality of the Iraq war will be debated on Tuesday – a rare example of the legislature discussing the issue that has dominated our politics for the last few years. (A useful opportunity to judge all the declared candidates for Labour Leader and Deputy Leader of course!)

Full marks to the Stop the War Coalition for calling an emergency protest on Tuesday from 5pm in front of Parliament.
