Labour Group
Leader, Daniel Yates, has announced
his decision not to seek re-election as the Group Leader at the Annual
General Meeting of the Labour Group on 13 May.
Dan has led the
Group through a turbulent period following the resignation of his predecessor,
who subsequently left the Party. His leadership ushered in a new period of
dialogue and cooperation between the Group and the wider Party, upon which we
must build in the coming period.
It is
particularly to Dan’s credit that he responded promptly – and sensibly – to the
results of the recent local elections which, whilst leaving us as the largest
single party having held on to 20 seats, saw the progressive electorate of
Brighton and Hove divide its votes between ourselves and the Greens.
Dan leaves his
colleagues the challenge of choosing a successor who will be able to take
forward the initiative which may well be his lasting legacy.
