Men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of their defeat, and when it comes turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name. (William Morris - A Dream of John Ball)

Government solve coronavirus testing problem

This blog rarely has anything positive to say about a Tory Government, but today is an exception.

The Government have announced that they can make good on their failure to do enough testing for coronavirus by a brilliant bit of cross-Departmental working between health and education! Since GCSEs and “A”-levels have all been cancelled this year there is a lot of testing capacity which will not now be used.

Those suspected of having coronavirus will therefore be asked to sit the exams which the candidates for those exams will not be able to sit (obviously any younger children who may have coronavirus will instead go through appropriate SATs). The exam results will reveal the extent of the spread of coronavirus.

Junior minister for coronavirus response in education, Avril Poisson, said “this is precisely the sort of brilliance we can expect from a Government advised by Dominic Cummings and led by Boris Johnson.”
